The Impact 24 award recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions to the Triangle business community. At SfL+a, Hughes is responsible for strategic client management and special projects with a focus on K-12 projects in North and South Carolina. He is also charged with running the day-to-day operations of SfL+a's Raleigh office, including overseeing the administrative functions and providing strategic direction.
Hughes has more than 25 years of leadership and recognized service in education facilities planning and design. Before joining SfL+a Architects, he was a principal at Moseley Architects, acting as the firm's education facility planner and design studios in Raleigh and Charlotte and Principal for the firm of Beardsley Design Associates in New York state. Hughes received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond and his Masters of Architecture degree from Syracuse University. Among his professional affiliations are the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International (CEFPI) and the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He holds a Recognized Educational Facilities Professional certification from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners, International (CEFPI) and LEED Accredited Professional certification from the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC). He is currently the president of the North Carolina Educational Facilities Planners (NCEFP) organization.
